Pesticides: curse or blessing?
It is hard to imagine modern agriculture without pesticides. They protect crops from pests, increase yields and help to secure the global food supply. At the same time, they are subject to criticism: residues in food, danger to bees and other pollinators, pollution of soil and water as well as health risks for humans and animals raise questions about their safety and sustainability.
This position paper examines the controversial aspects of the use of pesticides. It analyzes the opportunities they offer for agricultural productivity as well as the risks to the environment and health.
