From fast to slow fashion: the path to conscious shopping

More and more collections per year, petroleum-based fabrics and wages for seamstresses far below the minimum subsistence level: the changes in the clothing and textile industry in recent decades have placed a huge ecological and social burden on our planet and society.

Fortunately, there is another way: slow fashion is a counterpoint to these worrying developments. It respects producers, the environment and consumers in equal measure. It starts with the fibers and manufacturing processes as well as the purchasing models and stores. Another key aspect is how consumers handle the garments during the use phase and subsequent recycling. This paper is intended to pave the way for more conscious shopping by providing an overview of the problems and possible solutions in the textile industry and listing sustainable labels and standards.
